The misapplication of the bible in the LGBT marriage controversy

It is wrong to use the bible as justification to ban same sex unions on the whole population. I will show bible thinking from Adam to Moses to Christ as to why this application distorts truth.

(Hebrews 5:14) But solid food belongs to mature people, to those who through use have their perceptive powers trained to distinguish both right and wrong.

Because of Adam’s sin in the Garden of Eden his offspring were no longer under the law of God but of sin. Adam was in a covenant relationship with his God. By his sin, mankind was orphaned from God and his purpose. Consequently, sin cannot be charged against someone when they are not under a law covenant!! Since mankind as a whole hasn’t entered into a covenant with God, there is no condemnation for their sins. If this wasn’t so, you could never get a resurrection!!

(Romans 5:13, 14) “For until the Law sin was in the world, but sin is not charged against anyone when there is no law. Nevertheless, death ruled as king from Adam down to Moses, even over those who had not sinned after the likeness of the transgression by Adam, who bears a resemblance to him that was to come.”

The bible’s condemnation of same sex relationships was given to the nation of Israel only. It was made so by a covenant instituted through Moses. The people as a nation swore to God to uphold this law. An Israelite was bound for life to the covenant. One could never by choice escape the condemnation for a violation of the law!! This covenant never applied to the whole population. Why not?

(Exodus 24:3, 4) Then Moses came and related to the people all the words of Jehovah and all the judicial decisions, and all the people answered with one voice and said: “All the words that Jehovah has spoken we are willing to do.” Accordingly Moses wrote down all the words of Jehovah.

Some point to the flood as an example of God’s wrath against this sin. But the truth is the flood came because of materialized angels having sexual relationships with women producing a hybrid race. These beings were not in harmony with God’s purpose of a brotherhood of mankind. Consequently, God forced the materialized angels back to the spirit realm through the flood. This is why the bible speaks of the angels in “prison” and “Tartarus”. They have been prevented from materializing ever again.

(Genesis 6:2) then the sons of the [true] God began to notice the daughters of men, that they were good-looking; and they went taking wives for themselves, namely, all whom they chose.
(1 Peter 3:19, 20) In this [state] also he went his way and preached to the spirits in prison, who had once been disobedient when the patience of God was waiting in Noah’s days, while the ark was being constructed, in which a few people, that is, eight souls, were carried safely through the water.

(2 Peter 2:4) Certainly if God did not hold back from punishing the angels that sinned, but, by throwing them into Tartarus, delivered them to pits of dense darkness to be reserved for judgment.

Still some point to Sodom and Gomorrah as another example. The men of these cities were practicing rape. God answered and responded to the cries from the people who were being terrorized by them.

(Genesis 19:4) Before they could lie down, the men of the city, the men of Sodom, surrounded the house, from boy to old man, all the people in one mob.

(Genesis 19:13) For we are bringing this place to ruin, because the outcry against them has grown loud before Jehovah, so that Jehovah sent us to bring the city to ruin.

What does this mean for modern day Christians? As stated earlier, An Israelite was bound for life to the covenant. One could never by choice escape the condemnation for a violation of the law!! But the Christ instituted a new covenant. A covenant based on individual choice not a national choice. Consequently, by self-righteous zealots seeking to impose their wills and not God’s prove false to the teachings of the Christ.

The law of national choice failed in the nation of Israel. It wasn’t that the law was flawed but that the people were sinful. God proved to us it could not and would not work worldwide. Because the bible teaches us how to overcome sin and death through our own individual thoughts and actions. We willfully do this not under any compulsion.

(Romans 10:2-4) For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God; but not according to accurate knowledge; 3 for, because of not knowing the righteousness of God but seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the Law, so that everyone exercising faith may have righteousness.

(Romans 8:3, 4) For, there being an incapability on the part of the Law, while it was weak through the flesh, God, by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and concerning sin, condemned sin in the flesh, that the righteous requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us who walk, not in accord with the flesh, but in accord with the spirit.

(Matthew 15:19, 20) For example, out of the heart come wicked reasonings, murders, adulteries, fornications, thieveries, false testimonies, blasphemies. These are the things defiling a man; but to take a meal with unwashed hands does not defile a man.”

The contractual reality of Marriage: Is marriage between a man and a woman?

Most believe God performed the first marriage. What does the bible say about that marriage?

(Genesis 2:20-24) So the man was calling the names of all the domestic animals and of the flying creatures of the heavens and of every wild beastof the field, but for man there was found no helper as a complement of him. Hence Jehovah God had a deep sleep fall upon the man and, while he was sleeping, he took one of his ribs and then closed up the flesh over its place. And Jehovah God proceeded to build the rib that he had taken from the man into a woman and to bring her to the man. Then the man said: “This is at last bone of my bones And flesh of my flesh. This one will be called Woman, Because from man this one was taken.” 24 That is why a man will leave his father and his mother and he must stick to his wife and they must become one flesh.

Doesn’t appear God said much. Adam and his wife became one flesh! God took a rib from Adam and built the rib into the woman. (Seems God performed the first ever surgery!) Adam accepted his rib back by saying “bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh”. But Adam became one flesh with his wife not God. The first marriage was a contract or covenant between Adam (marrying) and the woman (given in marriage) not God!!

(Matthew 24:38) For as they were in those days before the flood, eating and drinking, men marrying and women being given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark.

Some believe the following verses constituted the first marriage:

(Genesis 1:22) With that God blessed them, saying: “Be fruitful and become many and fill the waters in the sea basins, and let the flying creatures become many in the earth.”

(Genesis 1:28) Further, God blessed them and God said to them: “Be fruitful and become many and fill the earth and subdue it, and have in subjection the fish of the sea and the flying creatures of the heavens and every living creature that is moving upon the earth.”

Is this a marriage contract? Look at the account of Noah after the flood when he exited the ark:

(Genesis 9:1) And God went on to bless Noah and his sons and to say to them: “Be fruitful and become many and fill the earth.

Yeah, God blessed Noah and his SONS not Noah and his wife!! Did God marry Noah and his sons? NO! You get it. Noah and his sons were already MARRIED! So the blessing itself did not constitute a marriage but it did constitute a contract between them and God. Same goes for Adam and the woman.

Materialized angels (Nephilim) had relations with woman and bore children! Were they married? Did they become one flesh with these woman? NO!! They were not born of flesh. So how could they become one flesh? Did they enter into a contract? No.

(Genesis 6:4) The Nephilim proved to be in the earth in those days, and also after that, when the sons of the [true] God continued to have relations with the daughters of men and they bore sons to them, they were the mighty ones who were of old, the men of fame.
Jesus spoke that marrying did not exist in heaven nor did it exist for the resurrected. Why is this so?

(Mark 12:24, 25) Jesus said to them: “Is not this why YOU are mistaken, YOUR not knowing either the Scriptures or the power of God? 25 For when they rise from the dead, neither do men marry nor are women given in marriage, but are as angels in the heavens.

So those angels were forbidden to marry. Why? The angels are in a covenant with God. The resurrected are in a covenant with Christ. The congregation is the bride of the Christ.

(Revelation 19:7) Let us rejoice and be overjoyed, and let us give him the glory, because the marriage of the Lamb has arrived and his wife has prepared herself.

(John 3:29) He that has the bride is the bridegroom. However, the friend of the bridegroom, when he stands and hears him, has a great deal of joy on account of the voice of the bridegroom. Therefore this joy of mine has been made full.

(Revelation 21:9) And there came one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls which were full of the seven last plagues, and he spoke with me and said: “Come here, I will show you the bride, the Lamb’s wife.

(Luke 22:28-30) However, YOU are the ones that have stuck with me in my trials; 29 and I make a covenant with YOU, just as my Father has made a covenant with me, for a kingdom, 30 that YOU may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones to judge the twelve tribes of Israel.

So is marriage between a man and a woman? If yes then the Christ CANNOT marry his congregation. Since his congregation is his bride and it is made up of many men and women!

The Case against “Organized” Christendom

The destruction of Jerusalem in 70 C.E. scattered Christ’s congregation to the four winds of the heavens. Only upon his return will he gather his people to himself. The following scriptures provide explanation to this and the situation of God’s people.

Matthew 24:31 “And he will send forth his angels with a great trumpet sound, and they will gather his chosen ones together from the four winds, from one extremity of the heavens to their other extremity.”

Revelation 7:1 “After this I saw four angels standing upon the four corners of the earth, holding tight the four winds of the earth, that no wind might blow upon the earth or upon the sea or upon any tree.”

John 11:51 “and not for the nation only, but in order that the children of God who are scattered about he might also gather together in one.”

James 1:1 “James, a slave of God and of [the] Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes that are scattered about: Greetings!”

1 Peter 1:1-2 “Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the temporary residents scattered about in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, to the ones chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, with sanctification by the spirit, for the purpose of their being obedient and sprinkled with the blood of Jesus Christ: May undeserved kindness and peace be increased to YOU.”

Even though there were congregations at that time in the first century and today, they did not meet in temples or in formal consecrated buildings. They met in homes or parks not in organized assembly. There wasn’t enough of them for that to be possible. Neither is it so today. Because their hope was in heaven and not in man made structures. The chosen are scattered about but not in organized Christendom!

The following verse says it all:

Matthew 22:14 “For there are many invited, but few chosen.”

Does God have the name Jehovah?

Having known Jehovah’s Witnesses since childhood, you would think I believe YES!! But the bible explains differently.

The bible is full of spiritual and moral laws or principles of the mind and heart. Maturity comes from extracting these laws from the scriptures and understanding their meaning. God’s name is one of these laws. Let us try to understand God’s reality and ours to his. This is for all who want to worship and serve God.

Moses when called by God asked the following of him:

(Exodus 3:13, 14) Nevertheless, Moses said to the [true] God: “Suppose I am now come to the sons of Israel and I do say to them, ‘The God of YOUR forefathers has sent me to YOU,’ and they do say to me, ‘What is his name?’ What shall I say to them?” At this God said to Moses: “I SHALL PROVE TO BE WHAT I SHALL PROVE TO BE.” And he added: “This is what you are to say to the sons of Israel, ‘I SHALL PROVE TO BE has sent me to YOU.’”
God simply and eloquently stated that he should tell them that the “Creator” or “prove to be” or “I AM” had sent him. Space prevents me from a deeper explanation into this. Please accept its simplicity: Jehovah = Creator. It is evident that this is explaining more of a relationship than a name.

For that time, we have God’s relationship to us but what about ours to him. We read:
(James 2:23) and the scripture was fulfilled which says: “Abraham put faith in Jehovah, and it was counted to him as righteousness,” and he came to be called “Jehovah’s friend.”

So Abraham was called the Creator’s friend. But all of this was before the Christian covenant. So before the Christian covenant, God was the Creator and we could be his friend if we loved him. But what about now, what about today. What is God’s relationship to Christians today?

We read:

(Matthew 6:9) Our Father in the heavens.

And what is our relationship to him now if we call him Father?

(Matthew 5:9) Happy are the peaceable, since they will be called sons of God.

Christians want to be children of God and him to be their Father. This is a much more deeper and fulfilling relationship then Creator and Friend!!
